Preview: Final Crisis / Rage of the Red Lanterns

Newsarama has a five-page preview to Final Crisis: Rage of the Red Lanterns. From their site:

The prelude to "The Blackest Night" begins here! They come from a place of great anger and hatred. They are the Red Lanterns and they will have their revenge against the greatest Green Lantern - Sinestro. That is, unless the Guardians have theirs first.

Looks pretty intense. Check it out.

After reading that preview I really have to wonder what the hell they are thinking. Yes the art looks good, but the writing in that short preview is horrible.

His sector was 666? His name is Atrocitus? And that version of the mantra, he's like a bad throw back to the late 80s and 90s when all the characters were dark, and gritty, and horribly two dimensional.

There isn't any creativity in this guys appearance or origin. He's a walking mishmash of bad villian stereotypes.

I will admit that when they first started dropping hints at a multi-colored lanterns I was a bit uneasy. But the more I read, the more I'm willing to give it a chance. I don't mind the name, heck we've lived with Sinestro for years and maybe we need iconic type names for each of the non-green corps. I'd be less happy if he was named Bill.
The art looks incredible and the writing kept my interest, so I'll be checking this series out. Thanks for the heads up Brad!
